Engineering is a critical topic and skill for school, work, and life. In this workshop, educators, and researchers from the Institute for Learning Innovation, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, and Mt. Hood Community College Head Start will share program activity ideas for families from the National Science Foundation-funded project, Head Start on Engineering (HSE). The HSE program was designed to spark and sustain interest in engineering for children and their families through experiences in the classroom, during evening parent workshops, at home, and through visits to the science center. During the workshop, participants will learn about the program and try out a variety of hands-on engineering activities designed for young children and their parents.

At the end of this session the participant will be able to:
  • Feel excited about incorporating the engineering design process into their home and classroom learning experiences.
  • Take home concrete activity ideas and resources for engaging children and their parents in the engineering design process.
